Book Illustration with Heidi Moreno

Cats and dogs have not only graced televisions and theaters for years but have also been staple characters within children’s books. In this workshop, join author and illustrator Heidi Moreno as she explores the process of creating stories with accompanying visuals. Students will have the opportunity to sketch with colored pencils, paint with gouache, and finalize a piece of artwork with a cat as the star of their story!

Heidi Moreno is an author-illustrator based out of Los Angeles. Most of her work is done traditionally using watercolors, gouache paint, and colored pencils. Her illustrations share snippets of cozy scenes that remind her of her childhood. Moreno loves creating characters and imagining their little home and world around them. Her work often has a spooky theme because she is a Halloween enthusiast.

Moreno has a great love for cats and her debut picture book, Working From Home with a Cat (Chronicle Books) was published in 2020. Her latest book on black cats, Luna Oscura (Lil’ Libros) is a bilingual children’s book.

On most days you can find Moreno going on walks and giving treats to community cats in her neighborhood.
