Formerly Rainbow Caverns Mine Train from 1956 to 1959, Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland opened 55 years ago on May 28, 1960 in Disneyland's Frontierland. This attraction featured a train that took guests through realistic landscapes filled with lifelike animals and other natural scenes of the wilderness, desserts, and more. This attraction closed on January 2, 1977 and was replaced by Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which is still at Disneyland Park today.
Pictured here is Walt Disney, celebrating the opening of Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland on June 12, 1960, with the "official hosts" of the celebration: his grandchildren (left to right) Chris, Joanna, and Tammy Miller.
