January Program Preview: Restoring

Posted on Tue, 01/08/2013 - 10:30

Did the holidays make you think about preserving the precious memories created by you and your loved ones? These days, digital media makes it very easy to record, share, and store the photographs, movies, and even audio files that document our lives. However, preserving and conserving historical media is much more challenging! On January 19, we have two fascinating programs that address the issues faced by professional restorers and conservators.

In the morning, Walt Disney Family Museum conservator Martin Salazar will discuss and demonstrate some of the techniques he and his team use to tackle the issue of preserving animation cels. Learn about some of the technical and ethical issues institutions face when dealing with these fragile objects that were never meant to last beyond film production.

Then, in the afternoon, Theodore Gluck, the director of library restoration and preservation of Walt Disney Studios will be speaking about the processes used to restore and preserve classic Disney films in a talk titled "The Disney Classics: Preserving Walt’s Vision.”
