Open Studio Recap: Storytelling with Andy Gouveia

Posted on Wed, 06/12/2013 - 14:00

Last month in Open Studio, artist Andy Gouveia completed the line work for a story sequence on six large wood panels on the front porch of The Walt Disney Family Museum. Each panel exhibited a key story moment in an adapted version of the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk.

This past weekend, Gouveia returned to paint the panels and bring the story to life. Visitors dropped in to the studio to watch him work, ask questions, and complete their own story sequences on paper.

At present, storytelling and illustration are major themes at The Walt Disney Family Museum. Our current special exhibitions Camille Rose Garcia: Down the Rabbit Hole and Maurice Sendak: 50 years, 50 Works, 50 Reasons both showcase how pictures have the power to tell stories, using shape, composition, color, and character expression. These elements work together to tell stories in everything from graphic novels to storyboards to children’s books.
