On Friday, December 2, members of The Walt Disney Family Museum enjoyed the exclusive Members Holiday Party. The Museum galleries were open late for Members and their families and friends to enjoy. Famed Disneyland pianist Rod Miller played jolly Disney tunes in the Lobby, a caricature artist created portraits, a Coca-Cola® bar served up drinks and floats, and everyone attending received a special souvenir tin pin. Members who brought a new unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots to the event received another pin; and a new program, "Inside Track," made its debut.
So, how was the Member’s Holiday Open House?
Just as it should, it all started with a Mouse….
The theatre was decked out in a warm, homey theme
—a Christmas tree by a fireside scene-
They played a few short films in a row:
Pluto, Mickey and Donald, all set in the snow.
You see, funny is funny no matter the year
And these old films make us grin from ear to ear
After the films: up the stairs with a bound!
I grabbed an “Inside Track” card and searched all around…
Most clues were simple, but some left me perplexed-
So I had to join forces with some other fun guests
We looked high and low and finally found the “Gee-tar”
(near the wall of TVs)
Then we looked for the bar!
There were lovely wines from Silverado
And Coca-Cola® floats- all poured with bravado!
Now getting hungry, we set out for food—
Would there be enough flavors to match all our moods?
A feast of finger foods abounded!
More than enough to go arounded (insert groan here)
Each bite was absolutely delicious!
Don’t believe me? Ask the dishes!
Now tired and full and sporting a new pin
I watched Rod Miller perform and let the real fun begin!
He played standards and anthems from his happy career
Mixed with tales of Disneyland that filled us with cheer!
And on the other end of the room,
The guests were turned into cartoons!
But as the evening drew near to its end,
I was drawn to my favorite gallery again…
The sketches, the stills, the most-loved scenes,
All the films that built my childhood dreams.
On the little oval couch I took it all in,
And it filled my spirit with Walt’s optimism
So forgive all my silly and corny old rhymes-
Al I wanted to say was - I had a great time!
