Each month, we ask a museum staff member to answer five questions about their position at The Walt Disney Family Museum, their fondest Disney memories, and other personal tidbits. After observing the rush of the final couple days of our Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs exhibition this past weekend, we'd like to introduce you to someone who our guests have probably seen helping manage the staff on the front-end, as well as working behind-the-scenes in helping everything run smoothly... so today, we're asking Billy Hayes... what do YOU do??
WDFM: What is your title and what do YOU do here at our museum?
I’m the Assistant Manager of Visitor Services. Basically, I make sure both our staff and especially our guests/members are enjoying our museum and that everything keeps running smoothly while working with our different departments to ensure that continues.
What is your fondest Disney memory OR what is your favorite gallery at The Walt Disney Family Museum and why?
My favorite gallery is gallery 9. How can you not love the Disneyland model? If it doesn’t bring a smile to your face, check your pulse! Also, I love the vintage Disneyland posters and cel work throughout the museum. Not only do they make me feel younger, but you appreciate the artistic talents even more as time goes on.
How does your job communicate and interpret the legacy of Walt Disney?
My job is to create an atmosphere by any means necessary that gives our guests (and our staff) inspiration and education to follow their dreams and to “Go for it” as Walt did. People forget how tough Walt had it when he was younger, he had to work really hard to accomplish what he did.
Describe your workspace OR your favorite item on your desk:
I have a vintage movie poster calendar at my desk--I love films!
Tell us a little-known fact about you!
I love our oceans and the animals in them. I’ve always respected Marine Biologists and what they do.
