Join us at The Walt Disney Family Museum as we once again celebrate The Big Draw, the world’s largest drawing festival, on Saturday, January 18, 2025! For this free family event, we will explore the theme of “Art in Motion” with a variety of interactive activities and drawing delights. Visit our Learning Center for some handdrawn fun as you help us create a community collaborative animation, visit the theater to try your hand at capturing movement in new and innovative ways of painting, or try your hand at controlling your own Scribble Bot and watch as your drawing comes to life.
Schedule of Events
Collaborative Animation | 11am–1pm | Learning Center
On an animated movie, it takes many animators working together to create each scene. In this exercise, join your fellow community as you collaboratively create your own scene as part of a bigger animation.
Rotoscoping | 2–4pm | Learning Center
In the early days of animation, animators explored how they could make their films more realistic by tracing over live-action reference footage. This technique became known as “rotoscoping.” In this workshop, travel back in time as you create your own rotoscope animation and experiment with drawing over existing movement.
Scribble Bots | 11am–noon, noon–1pm, 3–4pm | Learning Center
In this fun STEAM-inspired activity, collaborate with your own Scribble Bot, a small hand-made robot with attached drawing utensils, to create your own masterpiece!
Free registration required for this activity.
Registration for each session of this workshop will be available as follows:
All members and public (non-members): Reserve tickets beginning Friday, January 3 at noon PT.
All remaining tickets will be taken off sale on Wednesday, January 15.
Painting with Light | 11am–4pm | Theater
Create your own digital painting as you dance around our theater with light! Using a long exposure camera in our dark theater, watch how your movement pairs with colorful hues to bring a visual dream to life.
