About the Speaker
John Canemaker won Academy® and Emmy® Awards for his animated short The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation (2005). His films are part of the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and are distributed by Milestone Film & Video.
He is the author of 12 acclaimed books on animation history, including The Art and Flair of Mary Blair, Walt Disney's Nine Old Men and the Art of Animation, and Winsor McCay – His Life and Art.
He recently retired as a full professor and head of the Animation Department at New York University Tisch School of the Arts where he taught from 1988–2022. Canemaker is a recipient of NYU’s Distinguished Teaching Award for “exceptional teaching inside and outside the classroom.”
