About the Speakers
Bob Peterson
Bob Peterson is an Academy Award®-nominated screenwriter, director, and voice talent at Pixar Animation Studios. Peterson has been a key player at Pixar since 1994. His first assignment was as a layout artist and animator on Toy Story (1995). He went on to work as a story artist on A Bug’s Life (1998), Toy Story 2 (1999), and as story supervisor for Monsters, Inc. (2001). On Disney and Pixar’s Finding Nemo (2003), Peterson and his fellow writers, Andrew Stanton and David Reynolds, were recognized with an Oscar® nomination for Best Original Screenplay. On the Academy Award-winning 2009 feature UP, Peterson made his directorial debut as co-director, and was nominated along with co-director Pete Docter and writer Thomas McCarthy for Best Original Screenplay. Peterson also contributed to the original story for The Good Dinosaur (2015) and was a screenwriter on Cars 3 (2017).
Peterson has voiced several of Disney and Pixar’s most memorable characters including paperwork-obsessed Roz in Monsters, Inc., the musical manta ray teacher Mr. Ray in Finding Nemo, and Dug the dog in UP.
Recently, Peterson was the writer and director of the Emmy Award®-winning Disney+ Original shorts, Forky Asks a Question (2019), He also wrote and directed the Disney+ Original series Dug Days (2021), a collection of shorts that follows the humorous misadventures of Dug, the lovable dog from UP. Peterson also directed and wrote the upcoming theatrical short Carl’s Date, set to premiere in theaters before Elemental on June 16, 2023.
Peterson grew up in Ohio and New York City. He earned his undergraduate degree from Ohio Northern University and master’s degree from Purdue University—both in Mechanical Engineering. Peterson created cartoon strips for newspapers at both schools: The Northern Review and The Exponent, respectively.
He currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Kim Collins
Kim Collins joined Pixar Animation Studios in June 2000. She has worked in production management on several projects, including the Academy Award®-winning features The Incredibles (2004), Ratatouille (2007), UP (2009), Brave (2012), and Toy Story 4 (2019). More recently, Collins produced the Disney+ Original series Dug Days (2021), a collection of shorts that follows the humorous misadventures of Dug, the lovable dog from UP. Collins also produced the upcoming theatrical short Carl’s Date, premiering in theaters before Elemental on June 16, 2023.
Prior to Pixar, Collins worked at Walt Disney Animation Studios on The Lion King (1994) in an administrative role. She also worked as a production office coordinator in television and feature films shot in San Francisco, CA.
Collins grew up in New Hampshire, and attended Boston University in the Film and Television program. She currently resides in Oakland, CA.
