The inspiration of and appreciation for Walt Disney knows no boundaries. The membership at The Walt Disney Family Museum certainly reflects this diversity. Each month, we'll introduce you to one of our Members, so you can see the varied and frequently fascinating people, who have come together to learn and experience more about the life, work, philosophies, and ideals of Walt Disney. This month, we’d like you to meet Catie Ullman!

Catie: I am a proud native of San Francisco with a lifelong love of all things Disney. My son Jordan shares my enthusiasm for Uncle Walt and his magical kingdom. I have been involved in community and regional theater since childhood, starting backstage and then as an Actor and Singer. I keep body and soul together as an office manager for a San Francisco insurance brokerage, where my penchant for theatricality is indulged and even encouraged by a terrific group of coworkers.

My first trip to Disneyland was in 1956, the second in 1961 was epic, I ditched my family, used up all of my E tickets and spent the rest of the day on Tom Sawyer Island hiding out, hoping to camp out overnight.

Without a doubt, my favorite memories since then are of my son’s first visits to Disneyland. When Jordan shook hands with Mickey on his first visit, he commented about what a nice guy Mickey was. On our second visit, he was thrilled to shake hands with Mickey again and told me that he was sure that Mickey remembered him. Pure magic!

Why did you become a member of The Walt Disney Family Museum?

I came to WDFM’s opening day and was immediately hooked. I knew that I wanted to come back again and again and participate in WDFM as much as possible. I first got involved as a volunteer, then as a member shortly afterwards. Membership is one more way for me to feel connected to Mr. Disney and to support this beautiful museum.

What do you find the most enjoyable about your membership?

I think all of the special events are at the top of my list. I also enjoy being able to bring a friend for a museum visit or to see one of the monthly movies.

What do you enjoy most about the museum?

The positive feeling of community from the employees and guests, and the beautiful layout - I could live on the ramp with the Golden Gate Bridge view. My spirits are lifted every time I visit, this is my tribe!

How does Walt Disney inspire you?

He reminds me that talent is only one part of the equation; persistence and tenacity are just as important. Obstacles are there not just to challenge us but also to teach us.

What is your first Disney memory?

Watching the original Mickey Mouse Club, envying Annette and crushing on Tim Considine - Spin & Marty rule!

Anything else that you would like to share about yourself?

I need constant infusions of chocolate to keep my doppelganger under control.
