Each month, we ask a museum staff member to answer five questions about their position at The Walt Disney Family Museum, their fondest Disney memories, and personal tidbits. This month, for the first time, we're highlighting someone from the Communications & Marketing team—on her birthday, too! So, Andi Wang, what do YOU do?!
What is your title and what do YOU do here at The Walt Disney Family Museum?
Hello! My name is Andrea—everyone calls me Andi, the "Social Media Diva"—and I manage Communications and Digital Media here at the Museum.
What is your fondest Disney memory OR what is your favorite gallery at The Walt Disney Family Museum and why?
There are so many Disney memories from which to choose, but the one that stands out to me most would have to be when I was part of the Radio Disney Road Crew a few years ago. One day, a few of us visited the pediatric oncology patients at UCSF and spent a few hours with them playing games, giving out prizes, chatting, joking and just spending time with them. Seeing how happy and positive the children and their parents were--even while going through such a tough experience (many of them were in wheelchairs and hooked up to IVs)--was very touching and inspiring… I think that is when I truly realized the power of Walt's legacy and the magic of Disney.
How does your job communicate and interpret the legacy of Walt Disney?
Being on the Communications team, my job constantly revolves around helping create a voice and link between the Museum and the public. So whether it's posting on Facebook/Twitter, speaking with the media, editing and updating STORYBOARD, creating fun promo ideas, or representing the Museum at conventions (such as the D23 Expo), I am always trying to spread the word not only about the Museum, our public programs, activities and classes, but also about Walt, his life, and how the man behind the myth impacted the world.
Describe your workspace OR your favorite item on your desk:
My workspace is littered with Disney toys/figurines, photos of family and friends at Disneyland, and an eclectic collection of pens (designed to look like paintbrushes, giant acme pencils, Mickey ears and more). There is also some stunning, framed Mary Blair artwork on the walls… but my favorite element of this office has got to be the sign right outside of my area that reads, "ANDYS ROOM / KEEP OUT (except Molly)" with a line of Toy Story figurines guarding my space.
Tell us a little known fact about you!
I am a video game enthusiast, and am the person to beat in Tetris and Super Smash Bros! Yep, even my three brothers can't touch this.
