Each month, we ask a museum staff member to answer five questions about their position at The Walt Disney Family Museum, their fondest Disney memories, and personal tidbits. This is the fourth in our series titled "What Do YOU Do?" and in honor of Tax Day, we're highlighting Renalyn Tan.
What is your title and what do YOU do here at The Walt Disney Family Museum?
I am the Staff Accountant here at the Museum. I am responsible for supporting the Director of Finance in daily general accounting, which includes accounts payable, and payroll processes.
What is your fondest Disney memory?
I fondly remember watching the Disney Sunday movies when I was young, and waiting excitedly for the theme song to come on: "When You Wish Upon a Star." The reruns introduced me to Walt Disney and to his "Wonderful World of Color." As a young girl, it was a show that made me feel like I was truly in another place for an hour, and I looked forward to every week.
How does your job communicate and interpret the legacy of Walt Disney?
Walt Disney once said, "it requires people to make the dream a reality." To me, this means teamwork; people working together to accomplish a shared goal. Although my job is behind the scenes, I hope I've contributed by providing quality service to the staff and vendors of the Museum.
Describe your workspace or your favorite item on your desk:
Our Collections team framed a copy of a Cinderella painting by Mary Blair that is hung right above my desk. One side has Cinderella dressing up for the ball with the help of her animal friends, and another of Cinderella and Prince Charming in front of the castle—beautiful!
Tell us a little known fact about you!
I love to dance! I am a member of the Parangal Dance Company that has performed in festivals around the Bay Area, including the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival.
