This month, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a special Storytime reading of the new Little Golden Book, Walt Disney’s Little Man of Disneyland: A Change of Luck with author and illustrator Nick Balian. A sequel to the beloved 1955 classic Little Man of Disneyland, Balian will read his book aloud and discuss how his idea for the story came about, the influence of the original book, and Easter eggs that readers can look for (including Hidden Mickeys).

Please note: This Storytime will be available for all to view on The Walt Disney Family Museum’s Facebook and YouTube pages for two weeks—no registration required. Walt Disney’s Little Man of Disneyland: A Change of Luck will be available for purchase in our Museum Store—in-person and online—beginning Friday, March 17.

About the Speaker

Nick Balian is a Disney Publishing artist and an illustration manager at Pixar Animation Studios where he helps create children’s books based on Pixar’s films. Of all the books that Balian has illustrated, his absolute favorites are the Little Golden Books. He had the pleasure of illustrating the Little Golden Book for Disney and Pixar’s Onward (2020) and co-illustrating the Little Golden Book for Disney and Pixar’s Soul (2020). Balian has also contributed illustrations to Disney Little Golden Books including The Jungle CruiseMickey’s Walt Disney World Adventure, and The Orange Bird.

As a beloved Disneyland fan, Nick Balian’s dream came true when he wrote and illustrated his very own Little Golden Book, Little Man of Disneyland: A Change of Luck—the much-anticipated sequel to the 1955 classic, Little Man of Disneyland. When he’s away from the drawing board, Balian loves to watch and study films, write short stories, speak in puns, and spend time with friends and family—especially his nieces, whom he loves to pieces!
