Fantasyland's Sword in the Stone

During the month of July, The Walt Disney Family Museum is screening feature-length animated film The Sword in the Stone at 11am, 1:30pm and 4pm (except Tuesdays, and July 14 and 20). Continuing on with our week-long celebration leading up to Disneyland's anniversary, we take a brief look today at the Sword in the Stone attraction in Fantasyland!

The Sword in the Stone in Fantasyland is a post-Walt addition, which opened with the new Fantasyland in 1983. Tied to the 1963 animated film The Sword in the Stone, this fixture was previously part of a ceremony where a Disneyland Cast Member dressed as Merlin would pick a small child from the audience to attempt to pull the sword out. The show is not curently performing but the stone is still there waiting for the next Arthur to relieve that sword from the stone!
