Each month, we ask a museum staff member to answer five questions about their position at The Walt Disney Family Museum, their fondest Disney memories, and personal tidbits. Just in time for Halloween--and for all those trick-or-treaters out there--we've decided to highlight someone who's responsible for all the treats you'll find at our events: Carla Flores!
What is your title and what do YOU do here at The Walt Disney Family Museum?
Carla Flores, Director of Catering for Wolfgang Puck in San Francisco.
As the exclusive caterer at The Walt Disney Family Museum, I work with the event manager on all special events held at the Museum. We coordinate everything from simple cocktail receptions to weddings and galas. I work with the clients on their specific food and beverage needs, as well as event design and rental coordination.
What is your fondest Disney memory OR what is your favorite gallery at The Walt Disney Family Museum and why?
My childhood was filled with so many fond Disney memories. One of my favorites was visiting Disneyland for the first time, and the boat ride through “it’s a small world.” It’s something that I’ll never forget.
How does your job communicate and interpret the legacy of Walt Disney?
When I was in the eighth grade, I remember having to write a paper about what I wanted to do when I grew up—and I wrote I wanted to work for Disney. Even back then, I knew his legacy was something special. Today, I’m proud to be part of a museum that keeps his legacy alive, and teaches people about this amazing man who has impacted all our childhoods.
Describe your workspace OR your favorite item on your desk:
I have an amazing office on the third floor of the museum with the Facilities team, but with my job I have to be mobile, so I carry a huge DVF gold studded laptop bag which I can cram everything and anything into—it’s my favorite thing!
Tell us a little known fact about you!
My Grandfather was stationed in the Presidio--where I now work--when he served in the Army, and my mother was born at the Letterman Hospital…which I drive by everyday on my way to the museum.
