For the new year, we're introducing a series titled "What Do YOU Do?" where we'll be asking a museum staff member to answer five questions about their position at The Walt Disney Family Museum, their fondest Disney memories, and other personal tidbits. This month, we highlight Jessica Blake!
What is your title, and what do YOU do here at The Walt Disney Family Museum?
I am the Events Manager at the Museum. I am responsible for overseeing all the facility rentals at the Museum. During the events, I am present to not only ensure that the guests have a wonderful time, but also to manage the operations occurring in the background so the event goes off without a hitch.
What is your fondest Disney memory OR what is your favorite gallery at The Walt Disney Family Museum, and why?
Gallery 7b--I love Lilly's Oscar® Bracelet and the home movies in this gallery. Plus, you get a glimpse of the amazing view in Gallery 8!
How does your job communicate and interpret the legacy of Walt Disney?
Every event we host is an opportunity to introduce the Museum to first-time visitors, or simply give a seasoned visitor a different perspective of our institution. Although the Museum has been open for a little more than a year, we've already hosted corporate off-sites, cocktail parties, press receptions, a memorable bar mitzvah--and we have our first wedding coming up this summer! With 50-250 people per event, I believe I'm helping spread the word about our fabulous museum.
Describe your workspace OR your favorite item on your desk:
Above my desk is a copy of a poster from our permanent collection. It is a Polish interpretation of Sleeping Beauty, so it doesn't look like any image we automatically associate with the film.
Tell us a little known fact about you!
When I am not working, I love to cook for and with friends!
