About the Speaker
Associate Production Designer Griselda Sastrawinata-Lemay is from Jakarta, Indonesia, where she lived for 15 years. She joined Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2015, and first contributed her talents as a visual development artist to the Academy Award®-nominated feature, Moana (2016).
She also did costume design for the 2023 feature, Wish. Her recent contributions as a visual development artist include leading the costume designs for the character Anna in Frozen 2 (2019); the distinctive opening to Oscar®-nominated Raya and the Last Dragon (2021), inspired by shadow puppet traditions found throughout Southeast Asia; and designing costumes for the Madrigal family in the Oscar®-winning feature, Encanto (2021). She also served as character design lead for the animated holiday featurette Olaf’s Frozen Adventure (2017)—designing new costumes for the beloved Frozen characters and residents of Arendelle. Her additional credits include visual development on the Disney Animation feature, Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018).
Sastrawinata-Lemay attended Art Center College of Design, Sekolah Pelita Harapan, Ora Et Labora, and St. Bellarminus. She was inspired to pursue a career in the animation industry by Disney animated classics such as Cinderella (1950) and Sleeping Beauty (1959).
