Walt Disney’s Nine Old Men were a group of animators who were responsible for some of the most impressive and memorable work created at The Walt Disney Studios from the early Mickey Mouse cartoons through the mid-1980s. Toward the end of their animation careers, these artists became vital mentors to the up-and-coming animators recently hired at the Studios.

In this program, Dale Baer shares his memories of the five years during which he worked with six of the Nine Old Men. Having learned some significant lessons from these masters, Baer went on to have a career in animation that included work as a lead animator.

In this workshop, students will learn the history of Audio-Animatronics® technology during the early 1960s. This hands-on activity will challenge students to collaboratively work in teams to navigate a Sphero SPRK robot through trial and error, using math-based calculations and computer block programming.
