The inspiration of and appreciation for Walt Disney knows no boundaries. The membership at The Walt Disney Family Museum certainly reflects this diversity. Each month, we’ll introduce you to one of our Members. This month, we’d like you to meet Founding Member Sharon Lange-Hinkel!

As our first major exhibition, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: The Creation of a Classic prepares to close in two weeks, we focus on... The Prince.

Join us for Open Studio this Saturday and Sunday as two artists from the California Watercolor Association perform demonstrations and provide helpful tips on the use of water media. No experience necessary, participation is free with museum admission.

We’re celebrating a day of STEAM-powered education at The Walt Disney Family Museum on Saturday, April 20! By adding the arts (A) to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), we want to help teachers show students that STEM can be creative and fun. After all, combining STEM and the arts business-as-usual for those who follow in Walt’s footsteps.

Chris Chua's journey as an animator began when he first saw Pinocchio as a kid, eventually leading to his enrollment at CalArts, where he studied 4 years of classical 2D animation. Find out more about this animator as he shares with us what he loves about animation and how he got where he is today.

Join us this Saturday and Sunday in Open Studio for activities focusing on how to tell stories using illustration. See demonstrations of visual storytelling throughout the program as artist Andy Gouveia paints a series of large wood panels and creates a striking visual narrative. Participants will be invited to create their own short visual narratives.

Famed author and illustrator Maurice Sendak claimed to have been inspired at age 12 by Disney’s film Fantasia (1940). He would go on to influence a new generation of readers as well as illustrators. This summer we are offering a variety of workshops and talks led by master practitioners and creative professionals, in conjunction with the special exhibition Maurice Sendak: 50 Years, 50 Works, 50 Reasons.

Service to the community is an important part of the Legacy of Walt Disney. We honor his legacy in the Bay Area community through The Walt Disney Family Museum Volunteer Program. This year Ruben Raygoza, one of our dedicated volunteers, received the Youth in Action Jefferson Award.

Last month in Open Studio, artist Andy Gouveia completed the line work for a story sequence on six large wood panels on the front porch of The Walt Disney Family Museum. Each panel exhibited a key story moment in an adapted version of the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk.

Alex Kamer, Animation Supervisor at Stoopid Buddy Stoodios taught a wonderful hands-on workshop at the museum this last Saturday and gave participants the opportunity to bring to life some puppets from Robot Chicken!

On June 23rd, 2013, Jose, Michael, Pierre, and Fritz celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. We at The Walt Disney Family Museum would like to highlight the history of this landmark Disneyland attraction whose technological legacy continues to influence the world of themed entertainment around the globe.
