Walt Disney, artist Salvador Dali told Time magazine in 1954, “is innocence in action. He has the innocence and unselfconsciousness of a child. He still looks at the world with uncontaminated wonder.” This wondrously childlike outlook helps illuminate both Walt’s interest in spinning filmic tales centering on children, as well as his uncanny knack for finding young actors who became stars. Many of his productions, silver screen and small screen alike, featured children as main characters. In filling these films with handpicked young talent, Walt gathered a group of youthful performers many of whom made good acting, on-camera charisma, and audience appeal look like child’s play.

Each month, we introduce you to one of our Members, so you can see the varied and frequently fascinating people who have come together to learn and experience more about the life, work, philosophies, and ideals of Walt Disney. This month, we’d like you to meet two of our Members, Dave and Gloria Froines.

On December 10, Pixar's Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter and producer Jonas Rivera, and Walt Disney Animation Studios' Andreas Deja will visit The Walt Disney Family Museum for an examination of the way Walt Disney's perspectives and passions forever impacted the entertainment industry around the world and across the media.

Animator Les Clark said that “Walt was Mickey and Mickey was Walt,” an opinion shared by everyone who knew both of them. Legendary animator Ollie Johnston recalled, “All the time I was there, before we got into things like Snow White, I always thought of Walt being part of Mickey and vice versa..."

On Saturday afternoon November 12, a crowd of buckaroos gathered together in our digital theater and were transported back to a simpler time at the Triple R Ranch. Tim Considine (aka Spin Evans) and David Stollery (aka Marty Markham), were on hand to guide us through a “discovery of fun” as Donna Tuggle, Director of Education and Visitor’s Experience described the afternoon...

"Disney Artists' Holiday Wishes," a special collection of personal Holiday Greeting Cards—created by Disney Studio animators, comic strip artists, story men, a "Mooseketeer," and even the creator of the voice of Donald Duck—opened this past week, and will run through December 31 this year...

The motion picture industry has long had a disquieting reputation for chewing up and spitting out many of its juvenile performers and unfortunately the Walt Disney Studio is not without its own tragedy in that regard. The Bobby Driscoll story could be easily considered a textbook example of the rise and ultimately fatal fall of a child star...

Our condolences and thoughts go out to the family and many millions of friends of Bil Keane, creator of the comically endearing “Family Circus,” the world’s most popular single-panel daily cartoon. Bil died November 8 at his home in Paradise Valley, Arizona at the age of 89.
