With Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room's 50th anniversary celebration coming up at the end of this month, we take a look at the early day of Audio-Animatronics©, which includes the creation of Disney's very first mechanical robot: A Tiki Bird!

Last month in Open Studio, artist Andy Gouveia completed the line work for a story sequence on six large wood panels on the front porch of The Walt Disney Family Museum. Each panel exhibited a key story moment in an adapted version of the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk.

Service to the community is an important part of the Legacy of Walt Disney. We honor his legacy in the Bay Area community through The Walt Disney Family Museum Volunteer Program. This year Ruben Raygoza, one of our dedicated volunteers, received the Youth in Action Jefferson Award.

With flowers in bloom and birds alight this May, we take a look at one of Walt's springtime Silly Symphonies short: 1934’s The Goddess of Spring is based on the Greek myth of Persephone (or the Roman Proserpina), and her capture by the insidious god of the underworld. The project presented the unique opportunity for Disney artists and animators to bring human characters to life.

Storyboard’s Unusual Suspects series oft-focuses on a character considered by many to be secondary. A minor role, if you will. This month as we focus on Walt Disney's classic Alice in Wonderland, we decided to shake things up a bit and talk about a rather primary character, who still manages to fall under the realm of an unusual suspect.

Famed author and illustrator Maurice Sendak claimed to have been inspired at age 12 by Disney’s film Fantasia (1940). He would go on to influence a new generation of readers as well as illustrators. This summer we are offering a variety of workshops and talks led by master practitioners and creative professionals, in conjunction with the special exhibition Maurice Sendak: 50 Years, 50 Works, 50 Reasons.
