While researching Imagineering and opportunities for students, I came across this awesome backstage video tour of Walt Disney Imagineering. This tour was created as a virtual field trip for the Maker Camp; a program for teens interested in DIY projects in computers, engineering, robotics, and other innovative technologies.

When the Matterhorn Bobsleds attraction was installed in Disneyland, it stood as the tallest structure in all of Orange County. Rising to a towering 147 feet, the Disneyland version is actually just 1/100th scale of the peak after which it is modeled, the formidable Matterhorn of the Swiss Alps...

The first step to becoming an animator is becoming a student of animation. This week, we had a chat with a former WDFM intern Alex Turner who is a student at San Jose State University in the Animation/Illustration Program and dreams of becoming a feature film animator.

Some of the most eye-catching and inspiring pieces of artwork found at The Walt Disney Family Museum are examples of “concept art.” In the context of animated films, concept art determines the look and the feel of an animated world by establishing the color palette and shapes.

As another Presidents Day rolled by this February, we remembered the true meaning of the holiday – to commemorate the achievements and sacrifices made by America’s chief executives. Although Presidents Day was established after Walt’s time, he incorporated the sentiment into a new attraction titled 'Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.'

Every kid wishes they could make their favorite toys and characters real and Peter Kelly has the amazing job of bringing such characters to life. Kelly creates motion and performance of computer generated characters for feature films. He has worked at Industrial Light & Magic for almost 12 years and has had the opportunity to work on characters such as Iron Man, Yoda, and Davey Jones... and we are honored to introduce Peter Kelly to you, who has agreed to share a little bit about what he loves about animation and how he got where he is today.

The Walt Disney Family Museum celebrates the 2013 Academy Awards season with recently compiled fun facts about the legendary Oscars® and Walt Disney. Twenty-six of these famed Awards are on view at the Museum including the celebrated Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Oscar which is on exhibit through April 14, 2013 in the special exhibition, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: The Creation of a Classic.
